yup - i know, there's plenty of us dodger bloggers, and so it might seem that there's gonna be entirely too much to read about vin scully's birthday today.  but i just gotta toss in my two cents, my props and my well-wishes to vinny since i have the soapbox to do it.

like many dodger fans, i grew up to vinny calling the games on my transistor radio when i was too young to go out to the game myself, and certainly long before cable TV broadcasts.

his voice was the constant throughout my summers growing up. he put me inside dodger stadium as i listened while my pop barbequed in our yard on a sunday afternoon.  his descriptions created the pictures as i laid in bed refusing to sleep until the final out.  c'mon mom, whattya mean school tomorrow ? vinny sez manny mota's coming up !!

later, when i was old enough to buy my own tickets, through the radio, vinny was my seatmate at the ravine. even though i was siitng there, the game wasn't the game without vinny painting the picture of  what i was seeing.

at one point, i won a dodger contest and the prize was opening day breakfast AT HOME PLATE with stu nahan, tommy lasorda, and vinny.  vinny sat with me and my old lady and talked with us for about 15 minutes. as everyone says, he was the most gracious, warm and elegant man you could meet.

now vinny's a little older, and sometimes he makes mistakes with players names...but he's still head and shoulders over ANY announcer from ANY sport for my money. i'm so glad he's gonna be back as our dodgers broadcaster for one more year.

thanks for the lifetime of memories, vinny. happy birthday and may all of your wishes come true.

Inter - Dodgers Trade w/ the Night Owl

As night owl mentioned in his earlier post, the good thing about trading with a dodger blogger is finding all those cards you didn't know existed, but oh - what a joy to suddenly have them in your hands! night owl sent me a whole buncha stuff, these are just a few of my favorites. looking forward to getting more trades rockin', boys.

now my bison collection is gatherin some steam

GQ's are still rare in my collection, so this was a great trader

Blatant Contest Pimpage

hey everybody - it's 3rd quarter and the raiders are barely managing to stay ahead, so that's a good thing.  here's another good thing.
i just stumbled onto yet another blog and he's running a contest over at royals and randoms.  according to his old lady, he's got tons a cards - so he's giving some away. wanna add to your tons ? why not ?
it's pile a cards !!

actual cards in contest may or may not resemble illustrated cards, which may or may not be representative of sports cards in general, which may or not beget the need for contest in the first place.

Saturday Vintage Trade Bait

Happy saturday, everybody ! hope you all had a great thanksgiving with family and friends. lets start the weekend off with some trade bait.

i've heard the argument about what year does vintage begin?  i tend to use the cut-off of 1980. that makes those cards over 30 years old and thats vintage enough for me.  but that's beside the point, as these cards hail from 1979.  check 'em out...

that's one tall drink a water

So I'm a Holiday PEEMP !!

Everybody knows pimps don't get no holidays.  All you turkeys get on over to that plashke argyle sweater place and join the cool contest. it's your last chance TO  - DAY !!!
gowan, boy !! you got two minutes...what else are you gonna do while that thanksgiving pie is coolin' ?

So Fuji wants to see some pics...

Over at the Chronicles of Fuji, there was a request to share some of our favorite photography.   i'm about as good a photographer as i am a blogger, so i figured nobody wants to see my 'point and shoots'.  but in the name of being a good sport, i further figured, what the heck - i'll step into the batters box myself.

using the self-imposed criteria that i had to have shot it myself, here's a few of my faves...

these first shots are from my trip to taiwan. i went there on a recruiting trip for my school in '08. what a beautiful, fascinating, and awesome island
the glory that is taipei 101, formerly the tallest building in the world. i went up to the top and yeh, it's pretty dang high.  i love the way this beautiful building can be seen from almost anywhere in taipei. BTW - the lone soaring bird off to the left is what makes this pic for me.

taipei. street shot. it's the scooter capital of the world (at least it feels like it)  check out her home-made helmet art.

now to my beloved california coast.  my favorite beach. another 'shhh'.  it's my secret place.

the edge rocking U2's recent 360 tour

one more from taiwan. i spent my entire time there trying to get to a taiwanese baseball game. i wanted to experience the grand ol' american game through thier filter. never caught a live game - but i watched one on my hotel TV. i was amazed at the low level of talent. it seemed a strong american high school team could run the leagues.
i used this photo to launch my blog. Dodger Stadium, opening day, 2010. andre ethier touches home plate after a HR blast.  man, i love baseball.
